Legion Drilling in Darwin at ALGA's Contaminated Land Conference

Legion Drilling will present two in-situ remediation case studies discussing the implementation of slurry injection systems

ALGA's Northern Australia conference kicked off in Darwin today and Legion Drilling is there learning, networking, and presenting two case studies demonstrating the application of specialised remediation technologies (high-energy injection of remedial amendments) and their benefits in remote sites. These technologies produce minimal waste and create minimal impacts to site activities, thus overcoming limitations of conventional approaches such as dig & dump, pump & treat, or soil mixing.

The first remediation case study will show how our high-energy injection projects are performed step by step (from design to performance assessment) in collaboration with our US-based partners AST Environmental. The example site will be a petrol station in NSW, where High-Resolution Site Characterisation (HRSC) technologies were used for remedial design characterisation and BOS 200 activated carbon was employed to enhance the sorption and biodegradation of petroleum hydrocarbons found in low-permeability zones and underlying sandstone.

The second case study will showcase the world's first injection of Fluoro-Sorb for in-situ PFAS sequestration. This job was performed by our good friends at VEI Contracting at a North American military base, and we are looking forward to implementing this solution in Australia soon. Slurries such as BOS 200 and Fluoro-Sorb can be installed either as PRBs, soil mixing applications, or targeted injection across target treatment zones.

The two presentations will take place on Thursday 29 May:
—Session 6 – Site Characterisation and Assessment in Northern Australia
1.20pm – 1.35pm: Using HRSC and Slurry Injection Techniques for Effective Site Management Avoiding Excavation: A Step-by-Step Case Study

—Session 7 – PFAS and Emerging Contaminants
3.15pm – 3.30pm: Injection of Fluoro-Sorb® Modified Clay for In-Situ PFAS Immobilisation: Lessons from a North American Military Base

Swing by our exhibition table to chat, or if you are in Darwin but not at the event, feel free to reach out directly. We have rigs coming to the Northern Territory every now and then.
