Introducing the MiHPT -
MiHPT: Combined MIP and HPT Technology for Faster, High-Resolution Site Characterisation
The Membrane Interface Probe (MIP) and Hydraulic Profiling Tool (HPT) are two of the most effective tools available for contaminated land investigations. When combined into the MiHPT system, they deliver significantly higher productivity and better data correlation than running the tools separately.
Legion Drilling operates the latest MiHPT technology, allowing clients to collect volatile organic compound (VOC) data and hydraulic profiling data in a single push. This integrated approach halves the number of pushes required while providing a much clearer picture of contaminant distribution and subsurface conditions.
How MiHPT Works
The MiHPT probe simultaneously measures:
Volatile contaminants using the Membrane Interface Probe (MIP)
Soil electrical conductivity via a standard MIP dipole array
HPT injection pressure using the same high-quality down-hole transducer as the standalone Geoprobe HPT system
In post-processing, the combined dataset enables accurate estimation of hydraulic conductivity (K) and water table elevation, along with detailed graphical logs. This high-density data is ideal for building robust 2D and 3D conceptual site models and integrating directly into environmental modelling software.
Key Benefits of MiHPT
Doubled productivity — Collect MIP and HPT data in a single mobilisation, significantly reducing project time and cost.
Better data correlation — Easily compare VOC concentrations with hydraulic properties in the same borehole.
High-resolution results — Generate detailed vertical profiles that support more accurate conceptual site models.
Robust and efficient — Percussion-driven (hammerable) with Geoprobe direct push rigs, delivering daily production rates well above conventional drilling and sampling methods.
Ideal for modelling — High-density data is perfectly suited for 2D and 3D visualisation and environmental fate and transport modelling.
